The league phase of the World Cup has reached its half way stage, with most teams having completed playing 05 of their 09 matches, and some have played 04 matches till now.

Australia are sitting at top of the table with 04 wins from 05 matches and they still need to play Bangladesh, England, New Zealand and South Africa. All their remaining matches are with semi final hopefuls, who can give them tough fight on their day, but Australia is likely to make the semis from this position.

New Zealand are holding the No.2 position at the present, and they have 05 matches left against South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan, Australia and England. All the remaining matches are tough matches for them, they need to play well from here to make the semi finals.

India are placed 3rd, but they have already completed their matches against South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan, so they only opponent left which can make them worry is England. They are looking the most compact team in the competition at the moment, and it will be a big upset, if India does not reach semi finals.

Hosts England, like Australia have not been affected by the rains till now, also have 05 matches left, the last 03 being against Australia, India and New Zealand. They are at 06 points now, and would like to get full points from their next two matches against Afganistan and SL, to ensure that they reach 10 points before they face the 03 stronger teams.

Bangladesh have 05 points from 05 matches. They still need to play Australia, India, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Shakib Al Hasan is the leading run getter in this WC till now with 381 runs, and he has given a lot of solidity to the batting line up. If they can beat Australia on Thursday, they will be eying a semifinal spot.

South Africa has had the most bizarre World Cup till now, as their only win has come against Afganistan. Their 04 remaining matches are against New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and they are capable of winning all those matches, if they play to their actual potential. Whether they make it to semis or not, they can definitely spoil other’s chances too.

Sri Lanka helped by 2 rain points against Bangladesh and South Africa, and a win over Afganistan are at 04 points, and they do lack the confidence of beating any of the quality oppositions.

West Indies came with a lot of hope, and were billed as the dark horses. It is mandatory for their bowlers, to get at least a couple of wickets in the first 10 overs, as if any opposition survives the new ball against them, they do not have the fire power to stike rich in middle overs against quality batting. They will need a miracle to reach semi finals from here.

Pakistan the 1992 champions, which was the only world cup was played in the same format as like 2019, are still not sure of the best XI players on the park. Their only win is against England, and they still need to play New Zealand, South Africa, Bangladesh and Afganistan. With 03 of the 04 remaining teams, thinking about semi final spots, Pakistan could be the spoilsport team for them.

Afganistan have still not made to the Points Board, but will be hoping not to return empty handed from England.
