Shikhar Dhawan got hit on his thumb against Australia when he was batting on 24, he batted through the pain to complete a century and thus taking the Indian total to beyond Australia’s reach. Now the same thumb is under plaster, which can only be removed after the World Cup gets over.

Its shattering for any player, to leave the World Cup being injured, as the entire preparation, planning which goes on for 04 years, becomes a nought, once you are out of the tournament. Even the ever smiling Shikhar Dhawan got sombre while addressing his fans, after he got ruled out of the World Cup.

He will be missed in the dressing room, as he is a character who can get the gloom out of the dressing room, when the team goes through bad phases. He practices easy way of leading life, and is very approachable in the room.

The man who will miss him the most, is his partner for 105 innings and the vice Captain of the Indian Team Rohit Sharma. They have scored over 4500 runs together with 16 century partnerships at the top of the order for India, and when they succeed, India’s win percentages are always high.

With him and Rohit, its not only the left hand right hand combination, but the fact that he is front foot player, and Rohit is primarily a back foot player, makes it very difficult for the bowlers, not only do the have to alter the line, but also the length when they are at crease. They both compliment each other very well.

One more thing, which India stands to loose, is their No.1 slip fielder. India had lost Test Series in Australia and England, mainly for dropped catches in the slips, even in ODIs in England, the slip is an important position in more than 30 overs of any innings, Rohit will need to stand for his friend in the slips also.

His replacement is Rishabh Pant, who should have found a place in the initial 15 only. But with Shankar having a dream debut, Rishabh will need to wait for his own World Cup debut.

Losing Shikhar Dhawan, in the middle of the World Cup campaign is a very bad loss for India, but hopefully they have the ammunition in not making it count.
